How do I find an Honest, Reliable and Professional Electrician?

Here are 5 TIPS on how to find a Reliable, Trustworthy and Professional Electrician.

  1. Are they Licensed and Insured? – A licensed Electrician means that they have passed the necessary examinations, gained the necessary experience and provide a professional service that meets industry standards and regulations. Being a NSW Licensed Electrician means that you are legally bound to perform Electrical work that meets Australian Standards AS3000 and NSW Local Wiring Rules.Ask to see your Electricians Contractor License. This is issued by the Department of Fair Trading. It will feature their name, License Number and Expiry Date. Why is this important? Because hiring a licensed and insured electrician offers you added protection. When an electrician is licensed, it means that they have the required skills and experience. You can also make background checks to see if the Electrician has been reported for malpractice. An insured Electrician will have Public Liability in excess of $5 million and will cover both parties in case of a work accident or damages to property.
  2. Ask for References – A professional and honest electrician should be able to produce references from clients they have done previous work for. References could be names and phone numbers of clients or video and written testimonials located on various Websites.
References are a great way to get background knowledge on your Electrician. The more you know about the Electrician the better position you are in to make a judgement on whether or not they are the right person for the job. Please Note: Video testimonials tend to be more authentic then written reviews as you have video footage of the actual person providing the testimonial. For this reason written testimonials without a picture of the person could be written by anyone.
  3. Get at least 3 itemised quotes – Don’t just hire the first person that offers the lowest price. The old adage of “you pay for what you get” certainly applies here. A quote that lists labour and material costs is essential as this eliminates any confusion and helps when comparing different quotes.“There is hardly anything in the world that someone cannot make a little worse and sell a little cheaper, and the people who consider price alone are that person’s lawful prey” – attrib. John Ruskin
  4. First Impressions
Do you feel comfortable with the Electrician?
Is the Electrician up-front in answering your questions?
    Are they knowledgeable and informed?
Does the Electrician communicate well and are they polite and well-mannered?
  5. Ask family, friends, neighbours and associates – this has been and continues to be a very popular method in choosing a reliable, professional and honest tradesperson. We acknowledge that Ambient Electrical would not be where we it is today if it was not for Client referrals.
